  RELEASING YOUR CHILDREN INTO THEIR DESTINY

  Have you thought about the day you take your child to college? Imagine moving them into their dorm room and coming to that difficult moment of saying goodbye. What parting words will you share that they will take with them through the rest of their lives? In other words, what will you say knowing that they are about to experience a new found freedom and desiring that they will use this freedom responsibly. How about “Live up to your God given purpose!” The strength of character your child possesses will determine how well he or she will navigate through a world filled with temptation, pressure, and different worldviews. It’s never too early or too late to prepare kids for a faith-filled future!

  

  Many of my friends and I are sending our children off to college this year. A friend of mine mentioned that He may need to start a ministry for parents sending kids off to college. I think that is a great idea. Some of us may need it during transition :).  Even though we are all excited, we will miss them and worry a little. One thing we know for sure is that we have poured into them the word of God and ultimately we will have to trust and know that at the end to the day that is what matters. Now it is time for us to allow them to soar and walk into the purpose and destiny that God has for them. Sometimes that may be different than what we may think it should be. We have spent our life teaching, training and protecting our children; now it’s time to “give them wings.” For many parents, the shift from being the primary influence in a child’s life to releasing them to adulthood isn’t easy. Hopefully we have been preparing them for independence from the start. Now that they are on their own — finding their niche, building a career — you’re no longer their major authority, but friend. By setting healthy boundaries, you can enjoy this new role, while offering the love, guidance and insight only a parent can provide.
