Happy Mother’s Day to my Mom
I am so blessed that she was able to share a letter in my book. I have heard from many that were blessed by what she shared. I pray that it will bless you as well. There is nothing like a mothers love for her children. I honor her today for not giving up on us and pushing each one of us to be our best. Yolanda Conley Shields

Dear Kenneth,
The day you were born I knew there was something special about you. Now at 51 years old, to see all that you have accomplished has made me very proud of you: finishing high school and going on to get an established job and retiring after 30 years of labor with the State of Tennessee. This shows that you can accomplish things in life without having degrees, but being diligent in whatever you put your mind to. Your great sense of humor is the joy of our family. Continue to put God first in your life and all that He has for you will come. “Seek the kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” ~Matthew 12:33 (NLT)
Love you,
Mama (Willodes Conley Thompson)
Dear Robert Parnel Conley (1964-1976),
My baby boy, the thought of losing you was my worse nightmare. I didn’t know what to do, where to go, or what to think. How could this have happened to you? You were so young and vibrant, interested in everything, and you had all the life around you and in you. I couldn’t help to think of all the love and nurturing that had gone into your young life – caring for you, raising you, nursing you when you were sick and taking you to the doctors when you needed that, teaching you all the things you needed to know to keep you safe in this crazy world and most of all, how to be a great man. It was like a bolt of lightning ripping through my heart when I received the message that my son was dead. It felt like I had been stabbed in the heart with a razor-sharp knife. How could it be that you would die before me? Why you? The pain was unbelievable and unendurable, but endure we did, badly, like zombies, wondering when the pain would subside, how we’d go on living our lives, how would we, how could we, ever be happy again. Your twelve years on this earth were short, but not incomplete. God needed you most.
As I write this letter, I can remember how you would crawl up in my bed at night to sleep with me. I would pick you up and put you back into your own bed and when I’d wake up the next morning, there you would be. You were always such a great helper to our neighbors. I miss the meekness of your character and your soft-spoken voice.
Love you,
Mama (Willodes Conley Thompson)
WE HONOR YOU TODAY AND EVERY DAY FOR YOUR SACRIFICE
My mother is my root, my foundation. She planted the seed that I base my life on, and that is the belief that the ability to achieve starts in your mind.
